Operation Mobilisation in Pakistan

October 27, 2009

The relief and development team finished a road project in a remote village in just over two months. Before this, the villagers had only a poor, muddy, stony road very difficult to navigate which effectively cut off the community from basic human needs, and those ill or in labour sometimes died on the journey.

2The new seven-kilometre road is wider and smoother with comparatively fewer obstacles. Twenty thousand people from fifteen villages will benefit from easier access to hospitals, schools and the nearest city. Although some people had to cede land for the new road, the team convinced them of the benefit for generations to come. The team is now working to build a school in the same village which conforms to government earthquake-proof standards. The presence of the team and their contributions have encouraged people to have a positive attitude towards them, and talk openly about life.
